COLLABORATIVE DESIGN

A contemporary interior design

The best designs arise from a thoughtful collaboration between architect and client. Design is a process of exploration and discovery, and it works best through dialogue, mutual commitment and shared goals.

Even before pencil meets paper, I work with my clients toward a mutual understanding of the project goals. With no pre-conceptions, we talk through their needs, expectations and dreams, and begin to explore possibilities. Then, as the design is formed and developed, we continue to talk, working toward a design that is right. All ideas are welcome - to be sketched up and considered. Some ideas will work and others won't, but in the inventive give-and-take of the discussions some unexpected and delightful ideas emerge.

This process calls on the clients' imagination and commitment as well as my own as the architect. We all contribute ideas and evaluate progress. As the design develops the clients continually “try on” the new design - adjusting here, reworking there – until it is just right.

This is my aim for each project – a design partnership with my clients. I invite clients to engage in a creative dialogue that will continue throughout the project. Our shared goal is always a new home that is a perfect fit.
